Tonawanda shooting sends police officer to ECMC

A suspect has been apprehended in connection with an overnight shooting which sent a police officer to ECMC for treatment of multiple gun shot wounds.
Police spent much of the morning combing Morgan Street for evidence related to two separate shootings. According to the Buffalo News, police were investigating what is described as a "drive by shooting" which occurred around 1 am. It was during the ensuing investigation that a man opened fire upon police. A detective was struck multiple times. Two of the shots struck the detective's bullet-proof vest. After an exchange of fire, the suspect attempted to flee the scene by car but was thwarted when the vehicle was struck intentionally by an unmarked car driven by a police Lieutenant. The unidentified suspect was taken into custody. The Lieutenant suffered a broken wrist in the collision. The victim of the first shooting suffered serious injuries.
