Niagara Falls man charged in hit-and-run on Tuscarora reservation

A Niagara Falls man has been charged with a felony count of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, in a hit-and-run crash on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation.

It happened in the early morning May 7. Police say Michael Blackburn, 23, of North Avenue was taken into custody later that morning.

Niagara County District Attorney Caroline Wojtaszek said he is now in the custody of the county's Probation Department. Blackburn has a June 25 court date scheduled.

The suspect is charged with driving a white SUV southbound on Garlow Road and striking an ATV that entered the roadway from a field at around 2 a.m. The driver of the ATV, Evonne Printup Rice, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. Blackburn alleged fled the scene, leaving the SUV behind.
