A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in connection with a shooting death nearly two years ago.
The Erie County District Attorney's Office said Montek Mastin, 28, of Buffalo was found guilty by an Erie County Court jury of felony counts of second degree murder and second degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Mastin was convicted of the death of 28 year old Dion Donald on July 14, 2018 at a gas station at Genesee Street and Crossman Avenue. Donald was shot multiple times while sitting in the passenger seat of a car and died of his injuries at Erie County Medical Center.
Jamal Young, 24, of Buffalo was charged as an accomplice in the crime, serving as the getaway driver. He will serve a maximum 15-year prison term for second degree criminal possession of a weapon. Young was found not guilty of murder.
Also Wednesday in Erie County Court, Elon Fitzgerald, 25, of Buffalo was sentenced to a determinate term of five years in prison for firing several shots into an occupied vehicle on March 30 of last year.
Fitzgerald pleaded guilty in January to felony charges of second degree criminal possession of a weapon, plus two counts of second degree assault.
He admitted to firing multiple shots into a vehicle on Main Street near the Kensington Expressway in the city of Buffalo, wounding two people. Both victims were treated at ECMC and released.
