Wyoming County man charged with homicide in fatal overdose

A Wyoming County man has been arrested on homicide and drug charges in connection with a suspected drug overdose death Saturday. The Wyoming County Sheriff's Department said Jacob Putnam, 29, faces several charges for failing to call 911 to get help for a 23-year-old woman who had stopped breathing in a home on Michigan Road in the Town of Arcade.

A third party called authorities after arriving at the scene, but the woman had died. Deputies said Putnam fled the scene on foot, but was eventually taken into custody.

He is being charged with criminally negligent homicide, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstructing governmental administration.

Deputies said Putnam possessed drugs, drug paraphernalia and an imitation hand gun. Putnam also had two warrants out for his arrest.

He has been remanded to the Wyoming County Jail without bail due to previous felony convictions.
