Assemblymember Brian Kolb was in court in the town of Victor on Thursday. He pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of DWI, following an incident New Year’s Eve when Kolb’s state-owned SUV crashed into a ditch near his home on Route 41.
After that incident, Kolb gave up his position as minority leader, but he remains a member of the New York State Assembly.
Outside Victor Town Court, Kolb reiterated what he has said before about the drunken driving charge.
“I stand behind my two statements, that’s why I stepped down last week so that I would not be a distraction as minority leader to my conference and to all the employees. I did that because it was the right thing to do and I’m taking responsibility, that’s why we’re here and just like every other citizen, I’m following due process and however the courts take it, I will accept whatever the outcome is,” Kolb said.
Kolb previously has said he deeply regrets what happened, and also said he has begun the process of seeking professional help to fully address the challenges that he, along with his family, currently face.
He is due back in court Jan. 23.
