A Buffalo man has been charged with murder in the death of a toddler. Nathaniel Baker, 23, is accused of fatally beating 2-year old Jordan Robinson Tuesday at residence on Theodore Street on Buffalo’s East Side.
After taking the child to Erie County Medical Center with the child’s mother, Baker then fled to a residence on Sanders Road in North Buffalo where he was apprehended after an hours-long standoff. Baker is believed to be the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo said the investigation remains open.
“Generally when officers are starting to look for somebody of interest, we go to a number of addresses known based on previous information garnered or information that’s developing in these cases,” he said. “This was a fast-developing case upon their arrival at ECMC, with our homicide squad who did an excellent job of getting their identifying people and figuring out who needed to be talked to, where we could start locating people.”
Baker is being held without bail. His second-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Pending the results of an autopsy on the child and further investigation, Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said additional charges could be filed in the case.
“Hopefully today,” Flynn said when asked about getting autopsy results. “They’re pretty quick.”
Baker remains held without bail with his next hearing scheduled for Friday.
