Two women arrested for New Year's Day fire

Two Buffalo women have been arrested and charged with arson for a fire on the morning of New Year's Day.Ayesha Patterson, 28, and Latoya Austin, 41, were arrested in connection with the fire at 171 Breckenridge Street on the city's West Side. Both women are charged with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.

Investigators said the fire was started by a Molotov cocktail at around 5 a.m., following an apparent domestic dispute with a man who lived at the house.

Four adults and two children escaped the building and one resident jumped out of a second-story window to escape the flames. Three residents and a Buffalo police officer were taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross is helping the residents affected by the blaze.
