Town of Tonawanda acting police chief made permanent

Google Maps

Acting Town of Tonawanda Police Chief James Stauffiger has been appointed permanently to the post by a unanimous vote of the Tonawanda Town Board.

Stauffiger took over the post in August following the resignation and retirement of Jerome Uschold. His leave, came in the wake of the arrests of four police officers and paramedics since last December.

Stauffiger has overseen the department during the investigations of two homicides in the town since August, and his performance was enough to give him the support for the permanent appointment. He began his service on the police force in 1990 and became assistant police chief in early 2015.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
