Cheektowaga man facing up to 7 years for recklessness

A Cheektowaga man has pleaded guilty to first degree reckless endangerment for nearly injuring a police officer at an accident scene.

The Erie County District Attorney's office says Scott Nowak, 39, pleaded guilty in Erie County Court to the class D felony in connection with the March 31 incident.

The DA says Nowak drove away from a police stop along Genesee Street, prompting police to radio a notice to watch for his vehicle. A short while later, Nowak passed through a crash site on the Kensington Expressway near the Thruway interchange, then crashed into a barrier, nearly injuring a police officer.

Nowak, a previous felon, faces a maximum of seven years in prison when sentenced on Aug. 23. He is being held on $75,000 cash or bond.
