Niagara County Emergency Response Team

Niagara County authorities were involved in a standoff Thursday with a man threatening to harm his estranged wife and himself.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says it received a complaint regarding a violation of a court order at 4252 North Ridge Rd. in Cambria. They say the resident, David Barber, 33, had been in contact with his estranged wife, threatening bodily harm to her and himself via text messages, even though a full stay-away order of protection existed.

Deputies responded to the home, but they say Barber would not follow commands, so the Niagara County Emergency Response Team were called to the scene. Shortly after, Barber was peacefully taken into custody.

He has been charged with criminal contempt in the first degree and was arraigned in Cambria Town Court. He has been remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $2,500 bail and is scheduled to return to court June 4 for further proceedings.
