Vandalism causes $50K damage at Lewiston's Fatima Shrine

Barnabite Fathers

Several statues and outdoor displays at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Lewiston were damaged during acts of vandalism that occurred sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Shrine Associate Director Fr. Peter Calabrese of the Barnabite Fathers says that damage is estimated at about $50,000.

Two statues were knocked to the ground and another two had pieces knocked off. A large urn, some marble benches and a pillar in the outdoor chapel were also damaged.

This is not the first time the shrine has been vandalized, but it is the most extensive occurrence reported. Lewiston police are investigating.
