A mail scam has been making the rounds in Cattaraugus County.
Some residents are receiving a letter from DotService.com regarding Department of Transportation numbers.
The letter warns the recipient that their DOT numbers are past due and they must complete their Biennial Update or face fines of $1,000 per day, up to $10,000. The letters have been confirmed as a hoax.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department says recipients should not respond, nor provide information if contacted by telephone.
