Delevan mother sentenced to prison for toddler's death

The mother of a two-year-old boy who died of injuries inflicted by a babysitter has been sentenced to a year in jail for endangering the welfare of a child.

Heather Schoepflin, 28, of Delevan was charged with failing to seek medical care for her son Ethan Bigham. She pleaded guilty to the charge this past August.

The toddler had been injured by babysitter Devon VanDerWege in March 2017 at a mobile home park in Marilla. Last May, VanDerWege was sentenced to 20 years in prison for first degree manslaughter.
