Notre Dame Academy

A Cheektowaga man has been sentenced for embezzling nearly $50,000 from two area Catholic schools.

Dennis Potozniak, 57, was charged in connection with the embezzlement of funds from Notre Dame Academy and South Buffalo Catholic school. As the business administrator for the schools, Potozniak wrote checks for himself totaling $49,418 between April 2014 and April 2017.

He has since paid $65,000 in restitution.

On Wednesday, Potozniak was sentenced in State Supreme Court to two months of intermittent incarceration and five years probation on a third degree grand larceny charge. He faced up to seven years in prison.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
