Buffalo woman found guilty of stabbing mother to death

A Buffalo woman has been found guilty of stabbing her mother to death.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Lashawn Lewis, 40, has been convicted by a jury on one count of murder in the second degree.

On Aug. 4, 2005, the DA's Office argued Lewis stabbed her mother - Lateyfa Lewis, 50 - more than 40 times inside the victim’s Orange Street home in the city's Fruit Belt neighborhood.

“No matter how many years have passed, my office will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute all cold case homicides committed in Erie County,” said DA John Flynn.

Lewis faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison when she is sentenced in November and remains remanded without bail.
