Gang member sentenced to 50 years to life for 2016 murder

A Buffalo man has been sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 50 years to life in prison after being convicted for a 2016 murder.

Authorities say Jaylin Wiggins, 20, is a member of Buffalo's Central Park gang. He was convicted by an Erie County Court jury of second-degree murder and first-degree assault, plus criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

He shot two people, seriously wounding a victim on Maple Street, then killing Laron Watkins, 22, on Sherman Street during the early morning hours of Aug. 4, 2016. Wiggins was found guilty of the charges by a jury on April 24 of this year.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
