The Erie County Sheriff's Department says the suspect was shot by deputies at the Country Fair convenience store and gas station in Springville.

A armed robbery suspect is out of surgery and is expected to survive Monday morning, after Erie County Sheriff's deputies shot him coming out of a convenient store in Springville.

The Sheriff's Department says two deputies responded to the Country Fair convenient store and gas station on Route 39 and South Cascade Drive about 10:20 p.m. Sunday for reports of a man in the store with a sawed-off shotgun.

When the man exited the store, deputies say they gave him multiple commands to drop the gun, but he refused and kept advancing. That is when deputies shot the suspect. He was was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he is recovering from surgery.

The Sheriff's Department says there were about a dozen people in the convenient store when the gunman arrived, but no bystanders were injured. The gunman’s name and the identity of the deputies are being withheld at this time as investigators continue interviews.
