2 manhunt suspects surrender to Buffalo Peacemakers, police

Two Buffalo men have been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that became the subject of a Southtowns manhunt last week.

Lackawanna Police Chief James Michel said the shooting happened last Tuesday afternoon at 142 Center Street in Lackawanna. Several shots were fired, but no one was injured.

That led to a police chase and a Code Red alert to shelter in place for residents in the Lackawanna-Blasdell-Hamburg area, as law enforcement helicopters and ground officers searched for four suspects.

Michel said Louis Rivera, 22, and Christian Vargas, 19, were arrested Monday morning, after contacting Rev. James Giles of Buffalo Peacemakers wanting to surrender. The suspects have been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

They will be arraigned in Lackawanna City Court Monday.
