Two adults charged in drowning of 6-year-old girl

WXXI News

Greece Police have charged two people in connection with the recent drowning of a 6-year-old girl in the Erie Canal.

On Sunday, Police Chief Patrick Phelan announced that Laura McCasland, 25, of Texas and Tyler Kanaley, 23, of California have been charged with criminal possession of marijuana. Phelan said a charge of endangering the welfare of a child is pending.

Kanaley is the cousin of Alliyah Williams, who was at Henpeck Park on Thursday when the girl, Alliyah Williams, fell into the canal when she went to grab her sandals.

Phelan said she was not being supervised at the time. Williams was at the park with her 11-year-old sister and the two adults.

Police said that McCasland and Kanaley had smoked pot earlier that day. Authorities also said that marijuana was found in the vehicle the two had driven to the park, while a later search of the house where they were staying uncovered another 31 pounds of marijuana.

Both were ordered held on bail or bond.
