Lt. Craig Lehner added to police memorial in nation's capital

The name of Buffalo Police Lt. Craig Lehner was read among 199 officers added to the National Peace Officers' Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.

The Roll Call of Heroes ceremony took place as part of National Police Week, proclaimed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 as a dedication to those members of law enforcement who died in the line of duty.

Lehner was 34 years old when he died during an Underwater Recovery Team training exercise in the Buffalo River on Oct. 13, 2017. He had been a nine-year veteran of the force, a K-9 officer, a member of the Army National Guard's 105th Military Police Company and an Iraq War veteran.
