ECWA warning of person impersonating meter reader

Erie County Water Authority

The Erie County Water Authority is issuing a warning to its customers.

The ECWA says it has recently become aware of a person impersonating a Water Authority meter worker in the Town of Aurora. Customers are being encouraged to be aware and properly identify Authority employees before allowing them access to their home or business.

The Authority says all meter service workers travel in white vehicles with a blue Erie County Water Authority decal on both sides, They wear a blue uniform with the Authority's emblem and carry a photo identification badge.

Officials are urging all customers to confirm these three visible forms of identification from anyone claiming they are at a home to read or perform work on the water meter. If not shown proper ID, they say customers should immediately shut their door and dial 911 or the Water Authority's Customer Service at 849-8484.
