Warrant suspect dies in Niagara Falls police chase

A police chase in the city of Niagara Falls Wednesday has resulted in the death of the pursued driver.

The incident began at the Niagara Falls Border Patrol Station at around 4:15 p.m., when a vehicle check determined the owner was wanted on a felony arrest warrant for rape.

A New York State Parks Police officer was called in for assistance and his vehicle was struck by the suspect's vehicle. A chase ensued, then ended when the vehicle hit a metal light pole near the intersection of Buffalo Avenue and 56th Street.

The crash proved fatal to the driver, identified by police as a 33-year-old Buffalo man. The Niagara Falls Police Department is investigating.
