If you have not eaten all your Halloween candy yet, take a close look at it before biting in.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a complaint from a concerned parent Wednesday night about a piece of metal found lodged in a Nestle Crunch mini candy bar. Detectives were dispatched to the Clarence home and observed a pin embedded in the candy, with evidence the wrapper was compromised.
The Sheriff is warning families who went trick-or-treating in Clarence, in the neighborhoods of Chelsey Court and Westminster Drive, as well as in Amherst along Forestview Drive, Crestwood Lane, Oakview Drive, Timberlane Drive and Timberlane Court, to thoroughly check the packaging of any candy for foreign objects or defects, like wrapper tears or holes, before it is eaten.
The Sheriff and Kaleida Health have joined together to offer free x-rays of candy collected in those neighborhoods. Candy can be taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and Great Lakes Medical Imagining on Park Club Lane in Amherst for imaging during normal business hours.
Anyone who finds a foreign object in a piece of candy is asked to preserve the candy and contact the Erie County Sheriff’s Office at 858-2903. Detective are continuing to investigate the incident.
