Chipotle Mexican Grill says six local restaurants were part of a national payment card security breach that took place between March 24 and April 18.
The national restaurant chain has provided more information on the security breach it first reported April 25.
"The information comes at the completion of an investigation that involved leading cyber security firms, law enforcement and the payment card networks," according to a posting on its website.
The trouble was traced to malware used on the point-of-sale devices in the restaurants to read magnetic card strips. It recorded names, card account numbers, expiration dates, plus internal verification codes. The chain says it "found no evidence that other customer information was affected."
"During the investigation we removed the malware and we continue to work with cyber security firms to evaluate ways to enhance our security measures," according to Chipotle.
The local locations affected are Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst, Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda, Walden Avenue in Cheektowaga, Mile Strip Road in Hamburg, Transit Road in Williamsville and Military Road in Niagara Falls.
