Arrest made in Clarence restaurant owner shooting, robbery

NYS Police

Police have arrested a Buffalo man in the Labor Day weekend shooting and robbery of a Clarence restaurant owner.
"We're here today to announce the successful apprehension and arrest of Christopher Boyd, 36, of Buffalo who has been charged in connection with that robbery, with robbery in the first degree, two counts of attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon," announced Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty on Wednesday.

Flaherty said Boyd was arraigned in Clarence Town Court Tuesday night.

Authorities allege 44-year-old Alexander Pozantidis, owner of Zoe Restaurant on Transit Road, had closed up for the night when Boyd accosted him and stole several thousands dollars in restaurant proceeds from the night. Pozantidis handed over the money and was shot twice before the gunman fleed. Pozantidis’ wife heard the shots from the parking lot and called 911.

State Police Major Steve Nigrelli says a tip into Crime Stoppers about Boyd's whereabouts helped police and the U.S. Marshall's Office apprehend their suspect in a local store.
