BPD warning about stranger danger downtown

Buffalo Police are investigating a complaint by a 14-year-old girl who was approached by a man, trying to get her into his van. He is described as a black man, wearing glasses and a short sleeve shirt, in his mid-30s and chubby in appearance.

Driving a deep red minivan, the man reportedly asked the girl to talk with him and get in his van - all the way from Court and Pearl Streets downtown, following her to Huron Street. It was there they entered an area with more people present and the man drove away.

Police are asking parents and guardians to have a talk with their children about stranger danger. They advise parents to tell their kids about this specific event, warn them about possible future attempts, encourage safety and have them contact the police immediately if any stranger tries a similar approach.
