Suspects in fatal Anchor Bar shooting indicted

Chris Caya WBFO News

An Erie County grand jury has indicted two men in a fatal shooting inside Buffalo's famed Anchor Bar restaurant.

Freddie Dizon, 32, of Buffalo was gunned down around 7 p.m. on Friday May 20 while working in the kitchen of the iconic Buffalo eatery. The indictment charges Jorge Suarez, 26, and Gregory Ramos, 25, with one count of murder in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

"While all murders are upsetting and tragic, this one garnered much interest in the public eye because of the brazen actions of the shooter and the iconic location in which this murder occurred," said Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said homicide detectives worked around the clock on the case.

"These individuals were known to law enforcement. They were suspects almost immediately thereafter," Derenda said.

Flaherty said even though Ramos allegedly drove the getaway car, he faces the same charges as Suarez.

"The allegations that the grand jury has leveled is that they shared the intent to cause the death of Mr. Dizon," Flaherty said.

Attorneys for Suarez and Ramos entered not guilty pleas on their behalf. Both men were in custody on other charges at the time of their indictment and remain behind bars.
