Sheriff nets 1st BWI of boating season

Drinking and driving laws apply not only to the roads, but to Western New York waters.

The Erie County Sheriff's Marine Unit reports its first boating while intoxicated arrest of the season. Andrew Bodack, 49, of Buffalo was arrested after deputies observed the vessel he was operating on the Niagara River did not have the proper navigational lights shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday.

The Sheriff reports that during the investigation, deputies determined Bodack to be intoxicated.  Following the BWI arrest, they also found marijuana in Bodack’s possession.

The vessel was towed to a harbor. Bodack was charged, then later released on tickets for BWI, unlawful possession of marijuana and vessel equipment violations. He is scheduled to appear in Buffalo City Court in June.
