Area residents receive fake IRS calls

Authorities are warning area residents to beware of fraudulent phone calls from people claiming to be with the IRS.

The Wyoming County Sheriff's office, among other local law enforcement agencies, say they have received many complaints about people calling and claiming to be representatives of the IRS or U.S. Treasury Office and asking for money.

The Sheriff's department says people should know that the IRS does not communicate through phone calls and if anyone should receive such a call, their best course of action is to hang up.
