The Charter School for Applied Technologies on Kenmore Avenue in Tonawanda was in 'lockout' for a couple of hours Monday as Town of Tonawanda Police helped North Tonawanda Police search for a suspect.

"We have a situation with a lot police activity in and around Kenmore Avenue and Vulcan. We are assisting North Tonawanda Police Department. They came to us asking for some assistance in locating a suspect on specific charges," said Captain Joseph Carosi, Tonawanda Police Department.

That search was conducted in vicinity of the charter school. "They are in lockout. No one can come in or out," said Carosi.

WBFO News was also in touch with the school during the lockout. The school said students remained safe. School spokeswoman Justina Fetterly emailed "We are in lockout as per Tonawanda police suggested it. All is ok with the kids."

However, the lockout ended after police cleared the area after the could not find the suspect. The school buildings were re-opened. Students will be dismissed at the normal time Monday.
