Sheriffs seek info on firebombing of Clarence home

The Erie County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help in gathering information regarding a firebombing incident Tuesday night in the town of Clarence. Sheriff's Fire Investigator Deputy Scott Kuhlmey says the act was deliberate. He says a sudden noise alerted the resident that something was amiss.

"We consider it to be an intentional act. An unknown incendiary device was thrown at the home and it set fire to furniture that was on the front porch. Had it not been discovered by the residents, it would have extended to the home, which was occupied at the time," Kuhlemy told WBFO.

The resident was able to extinguish the flames before they spread to the house. Damage was minimal, but Kuhlmey says such an event is frightening.

"They're scared. Whomever is responsible is a dangerous subject and someone that would intentionally throw an object like this to cause a fire at a home that could possibly be occupied, it's certainly a scary situation," Kuhlemy added.

Kuhlmey is asking anyone who might have been along Goodrich Road between Clarence Center and Brookside Roads or any neighbors who might have security video to contact the office at 667-5213.
