Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has been charged with three crimes by Hamburg Police following a series of road-related incidents last Friday. Authorities say they received a complaint of two vehicles possibly racing on Route 179 near McKinley Parkway. They also received a call of a vehicle crashing at a nearby restaurant. When police arrived on the scene, they found a that a white 2012 Jaguar had crashed into a tree in front of the Mongolian Buffet.
Witnesses told police they saw two vehicles, the Jaguar and a black Camaro, traveling on Route 179 at high rates of speed. They say the Jaguar left the roadway, went over the grass and into the parking lot of the restaurant before striking the tree. That Jaguar was operated by Dareus.
The 24-year-old Alabama native was processed at the Hamburg Police Department and charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and participating in an illegal speed contest. He was arraigned Monday and released on his own recognizance. Dareus will be back in court June 17.
Hamburg Police outlined details of the case on a Facebookpost Tuesday morning.
Dareus is already facing charges in Alabama where he was arrested last month for possession of synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The driver of the other vehicle is being investigated. Bills coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday he does know the identity of the other driver. The Buffalo News is reporting that fellow Bills defender Jerry Hughes, who is known to drive a black Camaro, is the person under investigation.
