Buffalo Homicide detectives continue to investigate the shootings of two young victims. A three-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy were both shot Monday evening in Buffalo's Kensington-Bailey neighborhood.
The shootings occurred in the first block of Fennimore Avenue near Sulfolk around 8:30 p.m. Monday. Buffalo Police say both children are in critical, but stable condition at Buffalo's Women and Children's Hospital.
"We believe the 14-year-old may have been the intended target," said Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda. "The 3 year old was struck possibly by a stray shot and appeared to be an innocent bystander."
Commissioner Derenda met with reporters Tuesday afternoon in Niagara Square to offer an update.
Both children are expected to survive, but Derenda would not what areas of the bodies the children were struck by the bullets. They're names are not being released at this time. Police said they are not related.
Commissioner Derenda added that homicide detectives continue to "follow leads and have questioned individuals in connection with the incident." "It's unacceptable and we will move quickly to make an arrest," said Derenda
There was some reports of possible gang activity, but the police commissioner could not comment.
"It's still under investigation and there's not a lot I can say," said Derenda.
