Authorities capture suspect in beating of elderly man

A man being sought for the fatal beating of a 96-year-old church deacon in Buffalo has been captured in central New York. The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office says that 23-year-old Elhajji Elshabazz was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he tried to rob a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of an Ithaca motel.

Elshabazz was wanted by police in Buffalo for the death of Levi Clayton, who was beaten during a break-in at his home last November. Clayton died in April due to blunt force trauma suffered in the attack.

The break-in was captured by Clayton's home surveillance cameras. Three other young men have already been charged with second-degree murder and burglary in connection with Clayton's death.
