Third city employee arrested for parking meter thefts

A third City of Buffalo employee is under arrest for allegedly stealing money from parking meters.

U.S. Attorney William Hochul announced Friday that Franklin Lopez, 33,  of Buffalo is accused of stealing thousands of dollars.

Hochul says Buffalo Police found $1,300 worth of coins in Lopez's work vehicle in August 2011, money that should have been deposited in the city treasury.  An investigation into Lopez's banking records found substantial amounts of cash deposits while he also made significant cash payments on a car, two boats, a jet ski and a moped.

Two other city employees are also accused of parking meter thefts -- one was already sentenced to 30 months in prison while the other is awaiting sentencing.
