Accomplice in killing of 5-year-old girl takes plea deal

File photo

One of the two young men involved in the murder of a 5-year-old girl in Niagara Falls last summer has accepted a plea bargain for his role in the crime.Tyler Best, 19, of Buffalo is accused of helping his friend, 17-year-old John Freeman, dispose of the body of Isabella Tennant in a garbage tote August 26, 2012.

Freeman admitted to killing the Cheektowaga girl, whom he was watching while her mother was at work. After pleading guilty to second-degree murder in July, he faces a sentence of 20 years-to-life in prison next month.

Best, the alleged accomplice, pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution in Niagara County Court Friday.

The Buffalo News reports his plea will earn him a more lenient sentence of 16 months to four years in jail. He would have faced up to seven years, otherwise.
