An arrest has been made in a murder that took place nearly a year ago in Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Buffalo. Tariq Brown of the Bailey Boys gang was charged with the shooting of Marquay Lee. The 26-year-old Lee and four others were picnicking in the park last May 12 when they were shot. The other four victims were injured in the shooting.
U.S. Attorney William Hochul noted the irony of the location of the shooting.
"It's particularly ironic that these terrible crimes happened at a park whose namesake is probably one of the nation's foremost advocates for peace and non-violence. All of us in law enforcement will simply not allow Tariq Brown or other gang members to turn what should be a play zone into a war zone," Hochul said.
Brown is already in custody on other charges, including seven attempted murder counts. The new charge is included in a fourth superseding indictment as the result of a continuing federal investigation of the Bailey Boys gang.
Hochul says other members of the gang are charged with "rampant" drug dealing, four murders, and 14 attempted murders.
The other four victims suffered serious injuries, including one who is paralyzed and one who lost an eye.
