Sheriff investigating 'suspicious' deaths in Chautauqua County

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department is investigating the discovery of two bodies Wednesday in the Town of Carroll, southeast of Jamestown.

The bodies were found by the Frewsburg Fire Department after officials responded to a call on Wheeler Hill Road.

Sheriff Joseph Gerace says the deaths are considered suspicious in nature.

"Later it was determined that two bodies were recovered in the residence. We have been asked to assist them with the investigation. We have our forensics team here at the scene and we're trying to determine the cause of their deaths," Gerace told WBFO News.

Gerace would not say if the bodies found were male or female. But media reports say it was a man and woman.

As a precautionary measure, Frewsburg Central Schools canceled all after-school activities at its two schools near the home. Superintendent Danielle O'Connor says even students who live nearby were picked up by their parents.

"The sheriff's department did tell us that there was no immediate danger to our children or staff, however we just wanted to make sure that everybody was very closely supervised," O'Connor said.

Frewsburg High School & Middle School and the Robert H. Jackson Elementary school are several miles away from the crime scene. O'Connor says she is waiting to speak with the Sheriff to make a decision on how to proceed Thursday.
