The Erie County Sheriff's Department says James Corasanti has been released from prison.

The Sheriff issued a brief, one line statement:

"Inmate James Corasanti has been released from the custody of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office without incident, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by New York State Correction law. There will be no further comment from this office pertaining to Mr. Corasanti."

Dr. Corasanti has spent eight months at the Alden Correctional Facility for a misdemeanor DWI conviction.

Corasanti was charged with drunk driving after the hit and run accident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Alexandria Rice on Heim Road in July of 2011 in Amherst.

Corasanti had attended a golf outing at the Transit Valley Country Club prior to the crash.

Rice was struck while skateboarding home.

The verdict in Corasanti's trial sent a ripple of outrage throughout the area when he was acquitted on all of the major charges.

Rice's family is seeking a civil lawsuit against Corasanti. That is expected to begin in September.
