Crackdown continues on gang activity

More arrests were made Wednesday as local law enforcement officers continue their crackdown on gang activity in Buffalo.

Federal prosecutors say ten members of a West Side gang known as the "Loiza Boys" are accused of distributing cocaine and heroin. US Drug Enforcement Agent Dale Kasprzyk says authorities confiscated 480 grams of pure heroin with a street value of $30,000.

"Once it gets out to street traffickers, that heroin will be diluted.  They'll take 80 to 90 percent heroin and dilute to five to six percent," Kasprzyk said.  "There's the potential to increase the volume, which essentially increases their profits."

Agents also seized firearms and tens of thousands of dollars in cash.

They say these latest arrests, on top of nearly three dozen others in recent weeks on the East Side, send a message that such criminal activity will not be tolerated in Buffalo.
