Arrest made in robbery, assault of elderly man

Mike Desmond/WBFO News

Buffalo police have made the first arrest in the November 24 home break-in and assault on 96-year-old Levi Clayton.Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says the investigation is continuing, likely because surveillance footage of Clayton's home showed three people leaving the Longview Avenue home.

18-year-old Justice Feggans of Florida Street, a basketball player at Riverside High School, was charged with two counts of first degree robbery and two counts of burglary in the first degree.

Mayor Brown says it was a heinous crime which angered the community and led to numerous tips to police.

"The public was outraged by this case and we got a lot of good information and leads that came into our police department from members of the public. I can't highlight and stress enough how important getting good information from the public is in being able to solve crime," Brown said.

"In this case we had video. We had numerous tips. We're here today because of those tips. We hope to be back in the very near future [with] more detail," Derenda said.

Feggans has several prior arrests, including a robbery charge a month before the Longview home invasion.  He is in the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $250,000 bail.
