Wanamaker's sentencing rescheduled

A former top aide to Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown will have to wait another month to learn his fate.

Timothy Wanamaker, the former executive director of the Office of Strategic Planning, pleaded guilty last year to misusing $27,000 in federal Housing and Urban Development funds for personal use.

He was scheduled to be sentenced today. But before proceeding, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Arcara ordered the prosecutor to provide more information about Wanamaker's cooperation with investigators.

Wanamaker's attorney Jim Herrington says his client was helpful with information on how HUD money is funneled in City Hall and is remorseful about what he did.

"I think with what Tim has provided to them they have changed some of their procedures and things are better regulated," said Herrington.

"He feels horrible about what he did because he violated his duty of public trust not only to HUD, but also to the people in Buffalo."

Wanamaker's sentencing has been rescheduled for December 18.  Herrington says if the judge agrees that Wanamaker was cooperative, he could face less than a year in jail.
