A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was shot in the overnight hours on Buffalo's East Side.  Police say it happened after 1 a.m. near Purdy and East Ferry.

Three males were shot, the 14-year old, a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old.  All three were taken to ECMC.  The 16-year-old and 20-year-old males are listed in stable condition.  The 14-year-old has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards says several people were at a house in the hundred block of Purdy Street shortly after one when a lone man approached opened fire with a shotgun.

"As victims become very young, we're always asking the same questions that the public wonders -- why a 14-year-old kid would be struck by gunfire at 1 o'clock in the morning," Richards said.

"We don't know why and we're asking for the public to come forward with information to help us solve this crime."

Richards says so far, police have no motive for the shooting.  Richards it is not clear yet if the victims were targeted.
