CrossWalk is a performance and fashion installation created by Torn Space; featuring the work of audio visual collective GroupWork, the clothing line of Buyer, fashion designer Kylie Priscilla and the public as models. The production explores topics of quantum mechanics, contemporary African dance and mob mentality. These seemingly disparate subjects can be explored through the lens of complexity and unpredictability. Quantum mechanics deals with the fundamental unpredictability and non-linearity of the microscopic world, African contemporary dance often incorporates improvisation and spontaneity, mob mentality exhibits emergent behavior from individual actions.Audience members will gather at the intersection of Paderewski and Wilson Street for a live photoshoot featuring models washed ashore from the seventh dimension. The models sunbathe on rocks from 400 million years ago, prepare for a match and gather around a limousine that once acted as the party transportation for Studio 54. As the sun begins to set the production moves to inside Torn Space where the action and party begins.

THE FALLING AND THE RISING by the U.S. Army Field Band presented by Nickel City Opera. Music by Zach Redler, Libretto by Jerre Dye. A 90-minute chamber opera with members of the U.S. Army. FREE tickets with reservations.
Nickel City Opera's Artistic Director, Valerian Ruminski, son of Sgt. Valerian S. Ruminski, is proud to present this special production with the U.S. Army. THE FALLING AND THE RISING is a powerful story based on interviews with real service members and Veterans. It follows the journey of a Soldier, posted in a conflict overseas, whose world is forever changed by an improvised explosive device. Her path home is one of struggle, resilience, community, and resounding strength. THE FALLING AND THE RISING resonates through stunning music and the authentic portrayal of heroes who serve, whose real experiences are artfully woven into this remarkable new American opera. This operatic soldierβs odyssey was created in hopes of capturing the indomitable spirit of our U.S. military veterans and to shed light on the inspirational power of their often overlooked stories. THE FALLING AND THE RISING is a story of family, service and sacrifice inside a period of great uncertainty. The intimate, fully-staged, 90-minute chamber opera is performed by five principal singers and chorus, all members of the U.S. Army Field Band Soldiersβ Chorus and a 10-piece orchestra provided by Buffalo Musiciansβ Association Local 92. As the son of a U.S. Army Veteran, NCO's Artistic Director, Valerian Ruminski will be joining THE FALLING AND THE RISING chorus.
THE FALLING AND THE RISING was conceived by Master Sergeant Benjamin Hilgert. Originally commissioned by the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers Chorus, Opera Memphis, Seattle Opera, San Diego Opera, Arizona Opera and TCU. Originally workshopped at Seagle Music Colony. Special thanks go to Garnett Brooks for producing the North Carolina premiere at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater in January, 2018. FREE tickets with reservations.
