People arrive for work at the Amazon distribution center in the Staten Island borough of New York. A similar facility may be coming to the Town of Niagara.

It appears Amazon has not given up plans to build a Western New York distribution center and warehouse.

Two years ago, Amazon proposed such a complex on Grand Island, but it was scrapped after strong community opposition.

A new development, almost the same as the Grand Island proposal, has now been issued under the names Project Fi Fi and JB2 Partners LLC, although it has since been confirmed that it is Amazon.

The $300 million plan includes a 3 million-square-foot center on a 216-acre vacant parcel at 8955 Lockport Rd. in the Town of Niagara, just past the Niagara Falls International Airport and the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

If approved, the warehouse will create more than 1,000 jobs and would be the largest private-sector development in recent Niagara County history.
