The Jacobs Institute, a medical innovation center located on Ellicott Street within the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, named Dr. Adnan Siddiqui its new chief executive officer Tuesday.
Siddiqui will additionally retain his role as Chief Medical Officer, a position he has held at the Jacobs Institute since 2016. The institution is currently searching for a new Chief Operating Officer.
In a prepared statement, board chairman Jeremy M. Jacobs credited Siddiqui's leadership as Chief Medical Officer in deeming him the right choice to become CEO.
“He was integral in establishing the JI’s reputation among physicians and vascular medical device companies around the globe,” Jacobs said. “His familiarity with the leadership and staff positions him well for this new responsibility. Dr. Siddiqui is a solid successor in the CEO role, and he has my full support.”
Siddiqui, in turn, credited JI founder Dr. Nick Hopkins, a man he identifies as his mentor, and vows to advance Hopkins' vision for the Institute.
“My goal is to assist him and the JI team in developing innovative technologies to tackle vascular disease, a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Western New York and the world,” Siddiqui said in a prepared statement. “We have incredibly talented physicians, researchers and engineers working together in a uniquely collaborative ecosystem designed for creativity and innovation. The JI partnerships with the University at Buffalo, Kaleida Health’s Gates Vascular Institute, and our corporate clients—which include inventors, entrepreneurs, and companies from all over the world—makes it highly likely that the next big development to impact stroke and vascular disease comes out of Buffalo. We are now the recognized global destination for vascular medical device innovation.”
Siddiqui takes the role CEO following the retirement of Bill Maggio, who will continue to serve as a senior advisor.
