CARES Act grants benefit 1,399 small businesses

The Erie County Back to Business Grant Program has issued its final report regarding direct financial assistance from the federal CARES Act through the county and 43 North.

A total of 1,399 qualifying small businesses with 50 or fewer employees in Erie County shared approximately $19.2 million, with the median grant of $10,000.

Over 5,000 applications were received between Oct. 13 and Nov. 2, with nearly 2,900 of them deemed eligible for the grant program.

Review of the applications was completed by nearly 300 reviewers from 43 North, consultants and trained volunteers from M&T Bank, Ernst and Young and the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals.
