The General Motors Tonawanda engine plant will have a new director, effective June 1.

Luis Cervantes, who was quality manager and business team manager at the Tonawanda plant 2004-2008, returns from his most recent assignment at a GM plant in Mexico.

He will succeed Ram Ramanujam, who was recently reassigned to GM in Michigan.

His assistant, who was appointed earlier this year, is Gary Athoe, who is now interim plant manager. Athoe is a native of Ridgeway, ON.

Most GM plants, including the Tonawanda plant, are currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Locally, the shutdown affects 1,454 hourly and salaried employees.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
