Buffalo among first in the U.S. to get 5G

5G coverage from AT&T is now live in Buffalo. The Queen City is part of a select group of markets that will get to experience the faster network from the mobile provider before it goes nationwide. AT&T New York President Amy Kramer said Buffalo is a perfect fit to try out the network.

"Our plan is to offer nationwide 5G and we're bringing 5G to Buffalo. We want to make sure that we are deploying in many diverse geographical markets," Kramer said. "Buffalo is really important to us in New York and we wanted to make sure that folks in Buffalo we able to experience this enhancement of our network.”

Not all AT&T customers in Buffalo will be able to access 5G coverage. It is currently limited to those using the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G smartphone.

AT&T expects to expand its faster coverage nationwide by the middle of 2020.

Ryan Zunner joined WBFO in the summer of 2018 as an intern, before working his way up to reporter the following summer.
