The city of Lockport's business district is getting a shot in the arm from Albany. The state is awarding the city $10 million for several downtown revitalization projects.

The list of projects includes rehabilitating the Spalding Mill Building and Site, converting the vacant F&M Building, which is Lockport's tallest building, into a mixed-use development and revitalizing the city's historic post office.

"The City of Lockport will never be the same again with this investment. No matter what happens, everything will be connected and we will grow into the future," said Lockport Mayor Michelle Roman.

Funding will also go toward infrastructure improvements along Pine Street and South Street, designed to help make downtown Lockport a more walkable community.

Lockport's historic post office is receiving state funding for revitalization.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, who made the announcement at the Palace Theater Friday, said the funding is going to be "a gamechanger" not only for the people of Lockport, but all of Niagara County.

"It's going to be spectacular in a very short time," Hochul said.

Assemblymember Michael Norris says the Downtown Revitalization Initiative will help continue the redevelopment momentum in Lockport and make it a tourist destination.
